Former President Donald Trump ripped the newly released Democratic National Committee platform on Monday, saying its naming of President Joe Biden as the party’s nominee shows that “the Platform is not that important to them.”
The DNC released its platform on Sunday, and it still says Biden is running for a second term despite the president dropping out of the race last month. The party said the platform was passed by the Platform Committee just five days before Biden announced he was stepping down.
“In the JUST RELEASED Democrat Platform, they mention Crooked Joe Biden’s ‘second Term’ over 20 times. It shows that the Platform is not that important to them when they won’t even make the change,” Trump wroteon Truth Social.
The 92-page DNC platform states in one section, “In President Biden’s second term, he will push Congress to pass legislation consistent with our values as a nation. Legislation must secure the border, reform the asylum system, expand legal immigration; and keep families together by supporting a pathway for long-term undocumented individuals, improving the work authorization process, and securing the future of the DACA program.”
Biden, who exited the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on July 21, is set to give the keynote address at the convention in Chicago on Monday night. Harris has been blasted by Republicans for staying quiet about her policy positions and for seemingly avoiding the media while campaigning. The Harris campaign website still does not have a policy platform or list of issues on which the vice president is focusing during her run for the White House.
The 2024 DNC platform appears to show that Harris’ positions will be identical to those of her boss.
The Trump campaign also took a jab at the Democrats’ platform on Monday, writing on X, “In the just released Democrat Party platform, ‘Biden’s second term’ appears a grand total of 19 times. It’s hilarious incompetence but it’s also the truth. Kamala’s presidency would be a Biden second term. A continuation of his broken economy, broken border, and broken world.”
The 2024 DNC platform focuses heavily on the economy, health care, and housing and also vows to tackle the “climate crisis” and push “to restore” pro-abortion laws “in every state.”
