New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez used the tragic terrorist attack against Muslims in New Zealand to attack the National Rifle Association.
The NRA is an American organization that is committed to protecting the right to bear arms in the United States and has nothing to do with any other nation, but that did not stop her.
She also took the opportunity, with at least 49 people laying dead and scores injured, to mock those who send thoughts and prayers.
“At 1st I thought of saying, “Imagine being told your house of faith isn’t safe anymore.”
“But I couldn’t say “imagine.” Because of Charleston. Pittsburgh. Sutherland Springs.
“What good are your thoughts & prayers when they don’t even keep the pews safe?” she said.
“This is a time of great vulnerability for our communities. We must come together, fight for each other, & stand up for neighbors.
“Isolation, dehumanizing stereotypes, hysterical conspiracy theories, & hatred ultimately lead to the anarchy of violence. We cannot stand for it,” she said.
“(“Thoughts and prayers” is reference to the NRA’s phrase used to deflect conversation away from policy change during tragedies. Not directed to PM Ardern, who I greatly admire.),” she said.
The ridiculousness and callousness of her statements caused her to be torched by people who were offended by what she said.
